Mother burns girl’s cheeks for theft
A woman burnt the cheeks of her seven-year-old daughter with a hot spatula on Wednesday evening for allegedly taking Rs 10 without informing her in Andhra Pradesh.
The incident, which took place at Kotaveedhi under the One Town Police Station limits, came to light on Thursday morning when Child Line officials were alerted about the girl, Vasantha, and they in turn informed the police. It’s the second such incident reported in the city this year.
Sources said the girl’s mother G. Bangari had separated from her husband a few months back and had been living with her two daughters Vasantha and Devaki.
They said that Vasantha, who studies in Class II at Queen Mary’s school at Kotaveedhi, had told her sister that she had taken coins totalling around Rs 10 from a box and spent it on eateries.
When Bangari came to know of the incident she decided to teach her daughter a lesson and dragged her inside the kitchen and burnt both her cheeks with the flat iron ladle. Though the child was crying, she did not admit her to a hospital.
