Mother clobbers tipsy son to death
A mother fed up with her drunkard son, who used to beat up his bedridden father, clobbered him with a piece of wood, injuring him fatally, on Wednesday.
According to Kundara police, Muhammed Shafi, 30, came to the house drunk on Wednesday and demanded Rs 1,000 from his father, Musthafa, 57.
When Musthafa refused, Shafi took a stick and tried to beat his father. His mother Sulbath, 53, who was watching the scene in horror, came in between, blocked him and felled him with a piece of wood.
Hearing Shafi’s screams, neighbours rushed to the scene and found Shafi bleeding. They rushed him to the district hospital but it was too late. The police arrested Sulbath, who will be produced in the court on Friday. The couple has two daughters.
Police said Shafi had studied up to 10th standard, used to attack his schoolmates and graduated into a hireling, taking up “quotation jobs”.
The Musthafa family had to shift from Umayanalloor after Shafi was arrested in a murder case. He killed Navas, a native of Umayanalloor, who questioned his misbehavior towards his daughter in 2005. Shafi had come out on bail recently.
He spent about at the Mental Hospital Trivandrum in July and was discharged on August 16. The worn-down Shafi was being nursed back to health by Sulbath but he resumed drinking and turned against his father.
Musthafa used to run a small stationary shop attached to his house but he suffered a paralytic stroke four years ago and has been bedridden for the last one year. Sulbath used to run the stationery store. Eomjm
