MP CM backs Lanka’s Tamils

Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has expressed solidarity for the Tamil population living in Sri Lanka and urged Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse to underline the initiatives designed to protect human rights of Tamils.

Mr Chouhan made these observations during discussions with Mr Rajapakse, who was here on Friday to chair the foundation laying ceremony of Sanchi University of Buddhist and Indic Studies at Sanchi, 40 km from the state capital.
Chief minister Chouhan said that human rights have always been held in high esteem in Madhya Pradesh and emphasised that it is the foremost duty of any government to protect the dignity of each human life.
He said that Tamilians, irrespective of wherever they live, share the same cultural ethos. The resettlement of Tamilians displaced by a civil war in Sri Lanka is not an issue of one state but the entire country.
He hoped that the Tamil issue will be amicably resolved soon and cultural relations between the two nations will grow from strength to strength. According to Mr Chaouhan only “dharma-dhamma” can show the path leading to all-round happiness.
