MP has T break, votes on prices
The Zaheerabad Congress MP, Suresh Shetkar, on Thursday broke ranks with the Telangana Congress group, which after submitting their resignations demanding a separate state, defied the party whip and abstained from voting in favour of the government on the issue of price rise.
Though Shetkar justified his stand by saying that he attended and voted only to help the government, the remaining MPs from Telangana blamed the division on communication gap.
Shetkar said that he and his colleagues continued to be MPs in the absence of the resignations being accepted by the Speaker, Meira Kumar, and that it was his duty to help the government by voting in its favour.
He said, “Since our resignations are not accepted, we continue to be MPs. And it is our duty to come to the party’s rescue in crisis.”
He also justified saying, “I attended Parliament only to ensure that the government is not inconvenienced. But that does not mean, I am compromising on Telangana.”
