MP: Opp to corner govt on corruption
The Monsoon Session of Madhya Pradesh Assembly beginning from Monday will be stormy as the main Opposition Congress party has decided to corner the Bharatiya Janata Party-led state government in the House on the issue of corruption and the “tainted” ministers.
The deputy leader of Opposition in the Assembly Choudhary Rakesh Singh Chaturvedi, told this newspaper that they would be prominently raising the issue of corruption-both at the political and bureaucratic levels.
They will try to take up for discussion, through an adjournment motion, the resignation of senior state minister Anup Mishra in the wake of a murder linked with a land scandal in Gwalior, Mr Chaturvedi said adding there is no dearth of allegations of corruption and irregularities against a number of state ministers and the Assembly would become a forum to take up the issue of the tainted ministers presently under the Lokyukta scanner. Mr Chaturvedi said that the government would have a lot to answer in the House regarding allegations linked with the purchase of electricity and coal through a private trading house.
Mr Chaturvedi said that they have also done their homework to turn their guns on chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. The charge against him is that he has allowed those close to him to corner the most lucrative mining contracts across the state. The ruling side would also be confronted on the issue of massive leakage in the implementation of welfare schemes funded by the Centre.

JD-U chief reaches out to Jaya

As part of the strategy to corner the government on the issue of price rise in the upcoming Parliament session, the JD(U) chief Sharad Yadav has held parleys with the AIADMK chief J. Jaylalitha.
Mr Yadav is reaching out to leaders of the non-Congress political parties to arrive at a consensus on ways to launch fresh attacks on the UPA government.
“Mr Yadav sought views of Ms Jaylalitha on how to spearhead constructive opposition within the Parliament without disturbing much of the proceedings. He will be speaking to more leaders in the coming days,” said a senior JD(U) leader. Meanwhile, Mr Yadav on Sunday criticised the arrest of TDP chief N. Chandrababu Naidu at Nanded. The JD(U) chief stated that the Maharashtra government is initiating a “wrong tradition” and demanded his immediate release. Mr Yadav, in a statement, stated that the Maharashtra government’s action was “inappropriate”.
He also condemned the arrest of Mr Naidu. Mr Yadav had earlier solicited the support of the TDP for the July 5 Bharat Bandh.
While demanding immediate release of Mr Naidu, the JD(U) cheif termed his arrest as a wrong tradition in politics. He also stated that Mr Naidu should be allowed to go to the Babli dam site.
