MP: Opp. to move adjournment motion
The main Opposition Congress will go all out to hold the Madhya Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party government accountable during the Budget Session of Madhya Pradesh Assembly beginning here from Monday on the issue of farmers’ crisis and steps taken by the government to provide relief to the frost hit farmers.
Chaudhary Rakesh Singh Chaturvedi, the acting Leader of the Opposition in the House, told this newspaper that they have already moved an adjournment motion to take up the farmers’ issue on priority.
The Congress charge is that there has been laxity on the state government’s part in compensating the farmers through money received from the Centre.
The state government also faltered when it came to sending the utilisation certificate to the government of India for money received from the Centre before demanding more assistance.
The Congress plan to go on the offensive on the farmer’s issue notwithstanding, the mood within the ruling BJP is upbeat following their victory in the Assembly election for the Kukshi and Sonkutch seats that were earlier represented in the House by Congress MLAs.
When contacted, BJP MLA Vishwas Sarang said that the people have already given their mandate in support of the chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s leadership and the pro-farmer policies of the state Bharatiya Janata Party government in the just concluded by-elections.
The Assembly Session will begin on Monday with the governor’s address and will conclude on April 8.
