MPCC for same price for wheat
The Maharashtra Congress on Thursday urged the Centre to make wheat available to the aam aadmi at an uniform price across the country while demanding changes in the wheat supply policy.
The state Congress has come out with this suggestion against the backdrop of fuel price hike and the Opposition’s call of a bandh on the issue of price rise. While PCC president Manikrao Thakre, in a letter to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, urged him to control inflation, PCC spokesperson Kanhaiyalal Gidwani demanded that wheat should be made available at an uniformed, affordable price.
He said that the procurement price for wheat over the last two seasons has been at Rs 1,100 per quintal. Now, wheat should be made available at a price not more than Rs 1,200 under central issue price.
Each state government should be held responsible for the control of price of this commodity under the Open Market Sales Scheme (OMSS) and also for its distribution, he said.
He said the prices of food grains under the OMSS needs to be corrected immediately, food subsidy should not be given for exports.
