MPs told to behave in dignified manner

Parliamentarians have been suggested to conduct themselves in a dignified manner during visiting US President Barack Obama’s address to the joint sitting of Parliament on Monday.
An advisory to this effect has been issued to the leaders of leaders of parliamentary parties by the ministry of parliamentary affairs. In the advisory, sources said, parliamentary affairs minister Pawan Kumar Bansal urged the leaders to ensure the decorum and dignity of the institution is maintained.
The move has come keeping in view as how several MPs had jumped over benches and jostled to reach then President Bill Clinton and shake hands with him when he arrived to address the joint sitting of Parliament in March 2000.

Ansari, Sonia to call on US Prez at Maurya

Nov. 7: US President Barack Obama will meet vice-president Hamid Ansari, Congress president Sonia Gandhi as well as leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj when they will call on him during his stay in New Delhi. President Obama is scheduled to meet each of them for 20 minutes at the ITC Maurya, where he will stay during his visit to the capital.
However, this time, there is a difference in the standard protocol practice as far as the calling on goes for the visiting head of state. External affairs minister S.M. Krishna is not officially calling on Mr Obama — but will meet the President on two special occasions.
Mr Krishna will be present when Prime Minister Manmohan Singh meets President Obama at Hyderabad House prior to the delegation level-talks on November 8, sources said.
The US President had attended a reception hosted by secretary of state Hillary Clinton for Mr Krishna — a deviation from the protocol practice but it had underscored a special rapport.
Meanwhile, the US President was accorded a traditional Indian welcome when he reached the ITC Maurya on Sunday. The “Obama platter” may also make its appearance on the food menu when the US President dines at the Hotel.
