Chennai police arrested Shahanaz Ismail, the woman who had allegedly lured, married and ditched many men in the last few years.

A police team picked her up from Majestic bus stand in Bengaluru on Saturday night and brought her to Chennai in the morning. She was lodged in Puzhal jail after being remanded in judicial custody.

Shahanaz, 32, was accused of cheating many men by escaping with their valuables after marrying them.

Police believe that she had cheated at least five men, who had lodged complaints with various police stations in Chennai, after luring them with marriage.

A native of Pathanamthitta, Kerala, Shahanaz was married and mother of a child before she landed a job in a department store in 2006 in Chennai.

“She left Kerala after she had problems with her first husband Sidique in her native place where she had lost her mother while she was young,” the police said.

“According to Shahanaz, her father had died 10 years ago. Ever since she reached Chennai she had been working in a department store, met many men, married some of them and dumped them,” police added.

She had told some of her victims that she was a lawyer and the others that she was preparing for the civil services examination.

Pregnant Shahanaz to undergo DNA test

Shahanaz Ismail, 32, the much-married woman who had also cheated her husbands, is reportedly six months pregnant.

She claims that her last husband Prasanna is the father of the baby. “We will have to go a for a DNA test to confirm it because Prasanna is keeping mum,” said the police.

A police team had picked up Shahanaz from a Bengaluru bus stand and brought her to Chennai Sunday morning. “We conducted a medical test on her on Sunday to confirm her pregnancy.

She was slightly uncomfortable during her journey from Bengaluru where we traced her on Saturday night. Otherwise she was in good health. She has been lodged in women’s prison in Puzhal,” the police said.

So far, in Chennai, five persons, including her wedded husbands Manikandan and Prasanna along with Saravanan of Adyar, Raja of T. Nagar, Saravanan of Thiruvotriyur had lodged complaints with the city police.

A native of Pathanamthitta, Kerala, Shahanaz had been married and was mother of a child before she landed in job in a department store in 2006 in Chennai.
