Mukul son granted bail
After spending a night at the hospital during his one-day jail custody, Subhrangshu Roy, the Trinamul Congress candidate from Bijpur and son of Union minister of state for shipping Mukul Roy, was granted interim bail by the Barrackpore court on Tuesday. He was produced before additional chief judicial magistrate R.B. Adhikary who let him go after he furnished an interim personal bail bond of `50,000.
On Monday, the ACJM had sent him to one-day jail custody following his arrest from Trinamul Congress chief Mamata Banerjee’s rally at Naihati for allegedly attacking a team of Election Commission officials on April 12. He had complained of illness following the court order and had opted for hospitalisation.
Meanwhile, Trinamul Congress chief whip Sudip Bandopadhyay and his wife Nayana were granted bail by the Bankshall court on Tuesday in connection with an old case of rioting and damaging public property.
In 2007, both had taken part in a protest rally during which a bus was damaged.
A chargesheet was filed by the police declaring them absconding. Last week, a warrant was issued against them. Responding to it, they appeared before the court in the morning. Expressing surprise, Mr Bandopadhyay asked, “How can I be absconding in a four-year-old case when I am available being an MP round-the -clock while my wife is an artiste?”
