Mulayam case: Supreme Court reserves order

The Supreme Court on Thursday reserved its verdict on the petitions of SP leader Mulayam Singh and his family members seeking review of the top court’s 2007 order for CBI investigation into their assets.

A bench of Justices Alatams Kabir and Cyriac Joseph reserved the verdict amidst serious allegations by Vishwanath Chatturvedi, the alleged Congress “sponsored” petitioner, accusing the Union government of changing its stance on the change of “political equations”.
It was on Mr Chatturvedi’s PIL that the court had ordered the CBI probe into the assets of Yadav, his son Akhilesh, daughter-in-law Dimple and foster son Prateek and directed the agency to submit a report to the Centre for follow up action.
Senior advocate K.T.S. Tulsi, appearing for Mr Chatturvedi, urged the court not to permit the government to change its stance when the Yadavs have sought the review of the probe order as they have not been able to show any new grounds to seek a review. Mr Tulsi said such a change of stance was not “permissible” under the criminal law.
