Mulayam: Issue-based support to upa

Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav has said that his party would continue to extend “issue-based” support to the Congress-led coalition at the centre.

Mr Yadav told reporters in Ballia on Saturday that the Samajwadi Party would continue to give issue-based support to the UPA government but would also continue to register its protest on issues linked to the people.
Replying to a question on the possible formation of a Third Front, Mr Yadav said, “As of now, I am not making any efforts in this direction and neither have I spoken to any party. We are supporting the UPA government.”
Mr Yadav also parried all question about the renomination of Jaya Bachchan, whose term from the Rajya Sabha is expiring in July. “The matters will be decided in the meeting of the party’s parliamentary board on May 30,” he said.
Mr Yadav also ruled out the possibility of Mr Amar Singh’s return to the Samajwadi Party and remarked, “That (Amar) chapter is now closed.”
Mr Yadav, meanwhile, launched a frontal attack on the Mayawati government in Uttar Pradesh said that the imposition of President’s rule was the only solution to the prevailing problems in the state.
”The state is facing a constitutional crisis because the government does not take action even on the letters written by the governor. A majority of ministers in the government have criminal background and the law and order situation is deplorable,” he explained.
He further said that the “so-called action” taken by the chief minister against criminal elements in her party was eyewash since she had not released the names of those expelled from the party.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
