Mulayam rally security lapses: IB warns U.P.
The Intelligence Bureau has warned the Uttar Pradesh government, this time over Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav’s security being in tatters at the rally in Allahabad on February 1. The IB has said that even basic security measures, like frisking and security cordons, were not in place. The Central agencies are planning to take up the matter with the Election Commission through the concerned nodal ministries if such lapses in VVIP and VIP security continue.
The concern for Mulayam’s security comes days after the IB wrote to all poll bound states expressing concern over security breaches at Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi’s rally particularly after his security came under threat in at least two rallies in UP last month.
The repeated breach in security at election rallies is emerging as a huge concern for Central security agencies which are closely monitoring the situation.
Cautioning the UP administration, the IB missive sent to the state DGP last week says that there has been a complete violation of the protocol of VIP security at Mulayam’s rally. It says that the former chief minister and former defence minister is a ‘’highly threatened central protectee’’ and such lapses can seriously endanger his security.
The IB has said that even the basis security measures like the placement of DFMDs (door frame metal detectors) and ensuring an outer security cordon for the VIP were not followed. Unfrisked persons were allowed to come close to the stage as well as the VIP in a complete violation of the protocol.
