Mulayam warns of China attack
Former Union defence minister and Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav on Tuesday warned the government that China can attack India any time and the country has to be prepared for it.
Mr Yadav who was speaking during the Zero Hour in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday morning maintained that China has been staking claim to Indian territory not only in Arunachal Pradesh, but in regions of Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Ladakh as well. Seeking a discussion on this matter in the Lok Sabha, Mr Yadav said that the issue is of grave importance. he even demanded that the day’s business in the Lok Sabha should be shelved and a discussion held instead on the threat posed by the Chinese.
Later, responding to Mr Yadav’s observations, Union minister for parliamentary affairs Pawan Bansal said that he would draw defence minister A.K. Antony’s attention to his observations. Shortly after his remarks, finance minister and leader of the House Pranab Mukherjee stood up to assure the House, “We’ll discuss this issue.”
Earlier, noting that China usurped thousands of square kilometres of Indian territory from India during the 1962 Indo-China war, the SP leader lamented the fact that India has never tried to reclaim this territory.
He also noted that China has cheated India in the past, holding talks with the country and at the same time preparing for war against India.
