Mullaperiyar report almost ready
The Supreme Court-appointed Empowered Committee on Mullaperiyar dam is all set to complete its final report by Monday.
The committee, which began a two-day internal meeting here on Sunday, said that it would submit the much-awaited report before the SC ahead of its extended deadline of April 30.
Meanwhile, the committee has informed the Kerala chief secretary K. Jayakumar that it had received a copy of the Tamil Nadu government’s complaint on Kerala officials objecting to filling up of the boreholes on the dam.
The committee, which was constituted in February 2010 with a mandate to look into all aspects of the dam, including the safety aspect, has so far carried out over a dozen tests and studies through various agencies.
Sources said that the committee has received the last report from the Central Water and Power Research Station, Pune, which analysed the drilling work conducted by it on samples done on the nine drilling works.
The final report by the committee is said to be “the world’s one of the most comprehensive and scientific investigation of a water reservoir.”
Highly placed sources told this newspaper that the report on the 116-year-old structure, which has become a sensitive issue in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, would be submitted in a sealed envelop, the content of which could not be disclosed.
