Mumbai airport on high alert after terror threat

A high alert has been sounded at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport following the threat of a terrorist attack, a top airport official said on Friday.

Since Thursday night, security measures have been implemented by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, the Central Industrial Security Force, the Mumbai International Airport Ltd and all the private and government airlines, the official, requesting anonymity said.

The central alert has indicated the possibility of a terror attack using Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) or some other chemicals and advised the concerned authorities to be on their guard.

Passengers are being subject to thorough physical checks, restrictions have been imposed on vehicles halting or parking around the airport and random security checks are being done at all places, according to the official.

On July 13, Mumbai was rocked by three blasts using IEDs at Zaveri Bazar, Opera House and Dadar in which 20 persons were killed and over 100 injured.
