Mumbai blasts: Cops scan CCTV for killers
The footage captured by the CCTV camera placed in Panchratna Building at Opera House might give vital leads to the police in their investigation.
The video footage could lead to the person who planted the bomb that killed 10 people and injured 73 in the area on Wednesday.
An investigative team has been going through the footage along with the operator of the CCTV at the building since 2 am on Thursday.
One of the investigators, who requested anonymity, said that the team was concentrating on the footage captured near a scrap vendor’s shop at the blast site.
“Investigating officers were closely examining the footage where there was a lot of debris. Police suspect that someone left the bomb there,” he said.
“Just before the blast, three men were spotted sitting on motorcycles, which were parked in a row. A white Maruti WagonR passed through the lane when the bomb went off. Everything came to a standstill for about five to seven minutes with people in pain, and dead bodies lying around. For at least 10 minutes, no one came forward to help the injured fearing another blast,” a source said.
The investigators have shown the CCTV footage to members of associations in the market. “The police are trying to identify regulars and are focusing on strangers,” he said.
Satish Shah, secretary of Prasad Chambers has a CCTV.
“Our operator leaves at 6.30 pm everyday. On Wednesday, she left at the same time. Police broke open the control room and took the hard disk that has the footage.”
