Mumbai blasts toll goes up to 26
One more person, who was severely injured in the July 13 serial blasts in Mumbai, died on Saturday morning at about 6.30 am, taking the death toll in the blasts to 26. The deceased was undergoing treatment at Hariksondas Nurrotumdas Hospital.
For 42-year-old Chandrakant Wankar’s wife life turned into a living hell when policemen who were ferrying her husband to the hospital answered her phone call to her husband. “She could not come to terms with what had happened. It did not sink-in, “ said Wankar’s nephew, Ganesh Patkar.
Wankar was a struggling diamond trader at Opera House. Mr Patkar said, “His financial condition wasn’t very good. His wife has also not been keeping well for a while now, leading to strains.”

Carcass of tigress found in Dudhwa

July 30: The carcass of a three-year-old tigress was found in Dudhwa forest reserve in district on Saturday. Divisional forest officer Ganesh Bhatt said that it seems that the tigress was hit by some heavy vehicle since the carcass was found along a highway that passes through the Kishanpur sanctuary of the reserve.
The body is being sent to the Indian Veterinary Research Institute in Bareilly for autopsy.
Dudhwa, one of the country’s largest tiger reserves, has over 106 tigers but of late, man-animal conflict in the region has increased due to depleting forest cover.

SpeakAsia promoter arrested

July 30: The crime branch on Saturday arrested Dipankar Sharma, one of the first investors and panelists in SpeakAsia, a web portal promoting multi-marketing scheme.
Mr Sharma was arrested for allegedly promoting the scheme in which around 12 lakh investors across the country have been duped.
The police said Mr Sharma, who joined SpeakAsia as an investor and panelist last year, had started promoting portal and also encouraged investors to join multi-marketing scheme. “It is not possible that Mr Sharma was unaware about the company’s intentions,” said Himanshu Roy, joint commissioner (crime).

NRI techie held for wife murder

July 30: A US-based software engineer, along with three members of his family, has been arrested in Aurraiya district in connection with the murder of his wife.
Ganesh Shankar Mishra, an NRI, was arrested along with his father Devdutt Mishra, mother Sulakshana Mishra and sister Meena Dwivedi in Aurraiya on Saturday. Ganesh, his wife Anshul and their two children had come to India from the US on July 23 and Anshul was found murdered at her house on July 27.
