Mumbai cops: No clean chit to Srini’s kin
Despite the BCCI probe panel giving a “clean chit” to Mr Gurunath Meiyappan, the Mumbai police hasn’t yet given up its investigation of the IPL spot-fixing and betting scandal. The Mumbai crime branch had probed the IPL betting case in which Chennai Super Kings team principal Gurunath Meiyappan was arrested for allegedly being involved in betting.
“Unless and until we inte-rrogate Pakistani umpire Asad Rauf and the two key bookies, Pawan and Sanjay Chhabra, famous as the “Jaipur brothers”, we cannot give Meiyappan a clean chit. Meiyappan had placed bets on those IPL matches too in which Asad Rauf was the umpire, so the fixing angle has to be probed,” said joint commissioner of police Himan-shu Roy on Monday. “Mr Meiyappan was in contact with actor-cum-bookie Vindoo Dara Singh. He placed money on betting through Vindoo who was also in touch with Asad Rauf. So unless we question Rauf we cannot rule out any match-fixing angle involving Meiyappan.
