Mumbai police clueless, but says keep faith in it
Almost 24 hours after the blasts, the Mumbai police, despite being totally clueless about the perpetrators behind the explosions, appealed to Mumbaikars to have faith and trust the police.
Further, what was surprising was that the Mumbai police boasted that it is good in detecting the cases. “None of the blast cases have remained undetected, and this case too will be solved soon, ” said Rakesh Maria, chief of the Anti-Terror Squad.
Police commissioner Arup Patnaik did not attend the most important press briefing held jointly by crime branch chief Himanshu Roy and Mr Maria.
Moreover, Mr Roy’s silence through out the meet clearly showed that the top officials of the police department were instructed to brief the media by Union home minister P. Chidambaram, as there was a buzz going around regarding some differences between the ATS and crime branch. According to the home department sources, Mr Roy and Mr Maria were told to hold a joint press briefing to send across a message that there are no differences between the two investigating agencies.
Mr Maria also made is clear that the ATS has taken over the investigation of the blasts.
