Mumbai rave: 44 ‘positive’ for drugs
In a development that has vindicated the Mumbai police’s stand on the recent rave party bust in a plush Juhu hotel, blood analysis of 44 of the detainees proved on Friday that they had consumed drugs at the party. The police has recently been under fire for disrupting the “innocent” party where no drugs were being consumed.
Police commissioner Arup Patnaik on Friday said that blood analysis reports of 46 of the total 92 detainees were sent by the Forensic Sciences Laboratory, out of which 44 had tested positive for consumption of narcotics.
“Two of the 44 had consumed MDMA while 16 had consumed MDMA and cannabis. Twenty six others only had cannabis. Twenty nine have also tested positive for consumption of alcohol,” Mr Patnaik said, adding, “Reports of the remaining detainees are yet to arrive, which includes those of two cricketers.”
The West region police had conducted a flash raid on a hotel in Juhu, detaining 92 people and arresting a hotel director for organising a rave party on May 20. MDMA and cannabis were seized from the hotel, and the detainees, whose blood and urine samples were taken, included several television and film celebrities. Sources said the hotel director has also tested positive for consumption.
When contacted, additional commissioner of police Vishwas Nangre Patil neither confirmed nor denied the report.
