‘Mumbai violence pre-planned crime’
“The Thane police has recovered 19 out of the 160 bullets that were stolen from the police during the riots from Amritnagar area in Mumbra. This clearly indicates that it was a pre-planned crime,” said a senior Mumbai crime branch officer.
The crime branch has also received information that indicates that Saturday’s riots may have resulted from in-fighting amongst the organisers. “We have learnt that the differences of opinion began right from the date of the rally. The organisers had originally applied for permission to hold the rally on Monday. However, the day was suddenly changed to Saturday and a new application was made by some other members of the organising consortium,” the officer elaborated. Earlier, the CM had called for a meeting with home minister R.R. Patil, MoS (home) Satej Patil, ACS (home), city commissioner of police, DGP, MS, etc. on Sunday. “The police wants to be very cautious considering the sensitivity of the case. We would be very professional, there won’t be any unnecessary arrests, but there is no question of leaving anyone involved without action,” said ACS (home) Amitabh Rajan.
