Muslim board threatens stir
The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has accused the Central government of being uncooperative and irrational in matters related to Muslims. The Board has threatened to launch a campaign against the Centre after Ramzan.
Talking to reporters after a meeting of the AIMPLB’s executive council chaired by its president Maulana Rabey Hasan Nadwi, the general secretary of AIMPLB Mohammad Abdul Rahim Qureshi said, “The Waqf Bill has many defects and the attitude of law ministry and ministry of minorities affairs is irrational in this matter.”
He pointed out that after the Waqf (amendment) bill 2010 was referred to the select committee of Rajya Sabha, a delegation had met union law minister Salman Khurshid and discussed the issues but when the final report came, the suggestions had not been accepted.
The Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2010 is likely to be introduced with amendments in the Monsoon Session of Parliament.
The Sachchar committee had recommended that Waqf should be declared public premises, which implies that if there was any encroachment then it would be responsibility of the district administration to evict the same.
