Muslim scholars reject HC verdict
Nearly 40 Muslim scholars and clerics who met in the capital on Thursday have rejected the Ayodhya verdict and also called upon the government to make clear its stand on the issue. It has also rejected any efforts that might be made towards “reconciliation”.
The clerics and academics were led by the Shahi Imam of the Jama Masjid, Maulana Syed Ahmed Bukhari, and passed a resolution rejecting the recent order of the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court on the Babri Masjid-Ram Janmabhoomi dispute.
Later, speaking to reporters, Syed Ahmed Bukhari demanded that the Congress too should make its stand on the issue clear. He further said, “We hold the Congress directly responsible for all the anti-Masjid acts perpetrated right from the raking up of the Babri Masjid issue till this verdict. Congress party, on one hand, kept the Muslims under deception while, on the other hand, it helped communal forces.”
Interestingly, no representative from the All-India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) were present at the convention. The AIMPLB is an umbrella body under which several leading Muslim outfits have been working on the Babri Masjid issue.
