Muzaffarnagar riots: Warrants against 5 UP politicians
New Delhi: A Uttar Pradesh court on Wednesday issued non-bailable warrants against five UP politicians accused of inciting communal clashes in Muzaffarnagar .The politicians are said to have made inflammatory speeches which triggered communal violence in the district that claimed over 40 lives over a week ago. The political leaders facing the charges are BJP MLA Sangeet Som, BSP's Qadir Rana, Jameel Ahmed and Noor Rana and ex-Congress MP Saed-uz-man.
Meanwhile, there was furore in the UP Assembly as three MLAs, who were issued warrants, attended the session.Presently, over 10,000 people from 32 villages in Muzaffarnagar are displaced and are currently living in relief camps. Even 10 days after the riots broke out, life in Muzaffarnagar is yet to retrun to normal as curfew was lifted just two days back.Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who met the riots victims recently, has promised all help to the UP government to bring back normalcy. Singh along with Congress supremo Sonia Gandhi and AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi visited a camp in Bassi Kalan village, where Muslims affected by violence have taken shelter. They also visited Jat-dominated Bawali and Khanjpura villages, which too have witnessed riots.
