My elevation is important: Praful

New Delhi: Happy over his elevation to the cabinet rank, NCP leader Praful Patel today said the promotion was important for him both 'personally' and 'politically' and promised to bring a 'fresh lease of life' to public enterprises as a minister incharge of the sector.

"I am happy to become cabinet minister. It is important to rise in hierarchy...It is certainly very important personally and politically to become a cabinet minister," Patel said after the swearing in ceremony.

He has been elevated to the cabinet rank and shifted from Civil Aviation to Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises.

Asked whether he was satisfied with the new portfolio, Patel said the Prime Minister has given him a responsibility and he has accepted it happily.

Claiming to transform the civil aviation sector into a vibrant one, he promised to do the same to take heavy industries and public enterprises of the country to a new height.

"Every ministry is challenging...I moved to Civil Aviation in the year 2004. It was a relatively small ministry then. But today, we have been able to transform it into one of the vibrant sectors of the country," he said.

"People may look at aviation as glamorous and glitzy but it is a very complex business and running the ministry is equally challenging. I think it is important that every person has more diversity in his work," he said. The NCP leader said his priority would be to improve the performance of the public enterprises which are important for overall economy of the country.
