Mysura attacks govt for bringing ‘weak’ bill in House
The TDP on Thursday attacked the government for bringing a “weak” Lokpal and Lokayuktas bill and putting in all its efforts to get it passed in Parliament.
While participating in the debate on the issue in Rajya Sabha, TDP member M.V. Mysura Reddy said the present form of the bill, with loopholes, clearly shows that it is not the intention of the UPA government to set up a strong and effective Lokpal to check corruption.
“There is a growing contempt among people against politicians... They feel no action is being taken against the corrupt... look at Adarsh Housing Society scam, Commonwealth Games scams, 2G spectrum allocation scam... people are loosing faith in our parliamentary system,” said Mr Reddy.
The TDP has also submitted some amendments to the bill including against a provision on setting up of Lokayuktas in the states under Article 253. The party wants the federal structure of the constitutional system not to be tampered with.
Mr Reddy said if the present Lokpal bill is passed without including Oppositions’ amendments, it will only give a message to the common man that the government simply wanted to get a political mileage by passing it.
“There are loopholes (in the bill)... its a weak bill... there are ambiguities... we are the lawmakers... we should not allow room for ambiguities in the first place so that there is a need to correct it later...,” said the TDP member.
