NAC review of food law draft July 1
The National Advisory Council, headed by Congress president Sonia Gandhi, will review the draft Food Security Bill at its first full-scale meeting on July 1.
“The NAC will discuss what shape the draft Food Security Bill should take,” a government source said.
Soon after assuming charge, the NAC chairperson had asked an Empowered GoM which approved the bill earlier to take a fresh look. Miffed over the draft, Mrs Gandhi wanted the EGoM to revise the number of BPL beneficiaries, include vulnerable sections of society and enhance foodgrain allocations in order to make the right to food law meaningful.
