Nadia case: Pacheco hospitalised; verdict on bail plea today
Former Goa tourism minister Mickey Pacheco, who has been remanded to 14-day judicial custody in Nadia Torrado death case, has been admitted to
state-run Goa Medical College (GMC) after he complained of chest pain. GMC's medical superintendent Dr Rajan Cuncolienkar said that Mr Pacheco was brought in at 5 pm on Sunday and has been kept in the Coronary Care Unit (CCU).
The ex-minister, who was remanded to judicial custody by Judicial Magistrate First Class on July 23 in connection with the death of his 28-year-old friend Nadia Torrado, is currently lodged in Sada sub-jail in Vasco. The verdict on the bail petition, filed by him before district and sessions court in Margao, is scheduled to be delivered on Monday. The 46-year-old NCP legislator came out of his month-long hiding from the police by surrendering before the court on July 3. Thereafter, Mr Pacheco was admitted to the district hospital as he suffered from hypertension, urinary tract infection and jaundice.
The crime branch, probing the case, arrested him immediately after he was discharged from the hospital on July 8. Nadia had allegedly consumed rat poison on May 15 and died on May 30, 2010. The police has booked the former tourism minister for abatement of suicide, destruction of evidence and culpable homicide not amounting to murder. His close aide Lyndon Monteiro and Nadia's mother Sonia are also booked in the case.
