Naidu pulls a fast one on TRS

Dec. 15: The TD president, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, is planning to launch his indefinite fast demanding relief for farmers from Thursday itself. The decision, however, has thrown a spanner in Telangana Rashtra Samiti’s Telangana Maha Garjana at Warangal, also scheduled for Thursday.

TRS MLAs protested Mr Naidu’s decision to launch his fast from Thursday and accused the TD chief of trying to play spoilsport. Asked if he had brought forward his fast to overshadow the TRS meet, Mr Naidu, who never lets opportunities pass by, smiled and said, “I have never said so. You will see tomorrow.”

Party sources said that Mr Naidu is likely to undertake the fast at the Gandhi statue on the Assembly premises immediately after the Assembly is adjourned sine die as the government will most probably not accept the 20-point demand put up by Mr Naidu for the benefit of farmers.

The TRS MLA, Mr Harish Rao, alleged that it was a deliberate attempt on the part of Telugu Desam to overshadow the Telangana Maha Garjana.

“It’s a petty decision. It’s a deliberate attempt to side track the T-show. Telangana TD MLAs should advise Mr Naidu or they will have to face the public’s wrath,” Mr Harish Rao said.Meanwhile, the Telangana Rashtra Samiti is all set to turn Warangal into a “Pink City” on Thursday as the party unveils its final battle for a separate state of Telangana.

The party chief, Mr K. Chandrasekhar Rao, has invited the former Lok Sabha Speaker, Mr P.A. Sangma, and the social activist, Swami Agnivesh, for the meeting. Pink arches, pink cut-outs, banners and pink flags dotted the roads leading to the venue of the public meeting.

Over a dozen senior party leaders have been camping since a week to oversee the arrangements, particularly after the heavy down power which forced the party to postpone the meeting by a week.
