Naidu slams Maha for ‘ill-treatment’
Ahead of the all-party delegation from Andhra Pradesh to call on the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh about the intransigence of the Maharashtra government on the Babhli project issue, the main Opposition leader of the state has taken up cudgels against the Mahrashtra government.
Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief Chandrababu Naidu, who is in the city to meet national leaders to highlight the “ill-treatment” meted out to him by the Maharashtra government, has questioned the silence and indifference of the Centre to the issue. Talking to the media on Sunday evening, he demanded a national debate on the issue of sharing water between states. He said the lower riparian states are completely at the mercy of the upper riparian states and that is being taken advantage of the upper riparian states. Even as the TDP supremo explained the “ordeal” that he and other legislators had to undergo in Maharashtra, he criticised the Rosaiah government for being weak.
Mr Naidu repeatedly questioned the intentions of the Centre in dealing with what he called violation of the supreme court’s order by Maharastra. Mr Naidu said the Centre has the right to intervene in a conflict between two states, even though water comes under the state list.
