Nair writes to PM, wants ban revoked
Demanding an apology from those responsible for taking punitive action against him and three fellow space scientists, former Isro chief G. Madhavan Nair has written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for revoking the official order barring them from holding government
posts.
Facing mounting pressure from the scientific community for having debarred four scientists, including Dr Nair from holding a government position, the PMO has adopted a conciliatory tone with minister of state in the PMO V. Narayanasamy stating that he had an open mind on this subject and was willing to consider every point of view.
But Dr Nair has responded by insisting that the order barring them from occupying government posts should be revoked and an apology be given to them forthwith.
Mr Narayanasamy had told this reporter that the government action was taken on the basis of both the B. Suresh Committee report and the Pratyush Sinha five-member panel to study the recommendations of the Chaturvedi panel report and he had nothing against these scientists. In fact he was all praise for the scientific community and lauded their tremendous contribution in placing India on the sixth place as far as space technology was concerned.
Dr Nair, however, remained extremely critical of the government stating that so far none of the four scientists had received any order from the concerned authorities. “Even the first order copy debarring us from government service has not reached us. The government should communicate to us directly. Why through media?” he asked. “We are citizens of India, residing in India, we have cell connection and email connection, we have postal address and every thing is there,” he said.
