Namdhari leader killed

Suspected “contract killers” killed a senior leader of the politically influential Namdhari sect in Ludhiana on Tuesday morning. The police believes the killing might be linked to a succession struggle going on within the sect.

Avtar Singh Taari, widely respected as the closest aide of Namdhari spiritual head Satguru Jagjit Singh, was shot dead by two motorcycle-borne assailants as he came out of a colleague’s home at Katani Kalan village near Ludhiana’s airport suburb Sahnewal.
