Namesakes to fight it out in Karur
The battlefield has got a bit sticky at the Krishnarayapuram reser
ved constituency in Karur district because the voter is likely to get confused between the DMK and the AIADMK candidates.
Both have the same name, Kamaraj. Sitting MLA P. Kamaraj insists that people in the constituency know him well; besides, his DMK symbol ‘Rising Sun’ has long been a familiar winner there. “Kalaignar’s people-centric schemes over the last five years and also his exciting manifesto promising more, are sure to obliterate any confusion over the names of the candidates,” says Kamaraj, a former vice-president of the Karur bar association.
His rival S. Kamaraj says he is not depending on the voter’s confusion over the names to see him through the April 13 poll “because we have potent campaign weapons against DMK, such as corruption, 2G, besides the DMK’s family rule.”
The AIADMK nominee seems confident that his position as the Karur district secretary of Puratchi Thalaivi Amma Peravai will propel party cadres to work hard for his victory. Another encouraging factor for Amma’s Kamaraj is that women utnumber men, though by just about 400, in the electorate of 172516.
