Narendra Modi might skip big BJP meet, Navratra cited
Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi is likely to skip the BJP’s two-day national executive, beginning Friday, in the national capital.
Though the BJP refused to confirm whether or not Modi would attend the meet, sources disclosed that Modi is unlikely to attend the meeting because of 'Navratri'.
A section within the party feels Modi’s absence will fuel speculation of growing differences with senior leader L.K. Advani. Downplaying the issue, the party maintained that since Modi does not travel outside the state during Navratri, he cannot attend the party programme.
“There are some issues due to Navratri. We are working on it and will see if he can attend,” BJP chief Nitin Gadkari said. Modi is seen as one of the main contenders for the party candidate for Prime Minister.
The Gujarat chief minister, it was learnt, is not happy with Advani’s yatra against corruption, which is to start from October 11.
Speculation of a growing rift between the two has been doing the rounds ever since Advani shifted the venue of his yatra from Gujarat to Bihar. The yatra will be flagged off by Bihar CM Nitish Kumar.
The BJP national executive will begin with Gadkari’s presidential speech.
