Narmada water reaches Bhopal city
After overcoming some last moment technical snags, the state public health engineering authorities on Thursday afternoon gave the assurance that the long awaited Narmada river water should reach Ahamadpur near the state capital later in the night.
Narmada water is being brought to Bhopal from Hirani-Shahganj, 70 km from the state capital through a pipeline laid under the ambitious Narmada water supply project, which has been taken up to augment the drinking water supply in the state capital. As per the revised deadline, Narmada water was scheduled to reach Ahamadpur on June 1 but this deadline could not be met as the electric motors were hit by some technical snag at the intake point on Wednesday. Once this hurdle was removed the pumping system started working. Principal secretary, public health engineering department, Mr Alok Shrivastava had rushed to Shahganj on learning about the technical snag.
Superintendent, public health engineering department, Mr M.K. Shrivastava told this newspaper that the Narmada water was expected to reach Ahamadpur on Thursday night.
Narmada water supply project for Bhopal is being executed by state public health engineering department (PHED). It was originally scheduled to be completed by end of 2010.
