Natarajan will be in JPC in Singhvi place, BJP is in a fix
Senior Congress Rajya Sabha MP Abhishek “Manu” Singhvi’s move to withdraw himself from the joint parliamentary committee has put the onus on the BJP to rethink nominating two of its senior leaders, Jaswant Singh and Yashwant Sinha, on the panel. The Congress, meanwhile, announced the name of another MP, Jayanthi Natarajan, to replace Mr Singhvi.
The BJP indicated Tuesday its leadership was in no mood to ask the two leaders to recuse from the panel. The Congress urged the two BJP leaders to take a cue from the move by
Mr Singhvi, who recused himself from the JPC
probing the 2G spectrum scam as he had appeared for cellular operators in the court.
Mr Sinha and Mr Singh had headed the telecom GoM as finance ministers in 1999 and 2003. Mr Singh’s GoM had also included Mr Sinha.
While a senior leader maintained the Congress was not trying to make an issue out of the matter, he added: “They (Mr Singh and Mr Sinha) should know enough to recuse themselves.”
