Nation’s largest blood donors’ network soon
The Calicut University is all set to launch the largest blood donors' network in the country, with data of more than 1.5 lakh of its students, next month.
The directory will contain detailed information of all students studying at the University and 160 of its affiliated colleges. The programme is being carried out with the support of National Service Scheme (NSS) units.
A B Moideenkutty, the NSS coordinator in the University, said that the data, including blood group of 36000 students, contact numbers and addresses will be added to the blood donors' directory which will be available on the exclusive website of University. The detailed information of remaining students will be uploaded soon after the launching process.
As part of collecting the blood group information of the students, the NSS has already conducted blood group detection camps in all the affiliated colleges including professional colleges under the University last month.
Moideenkutty said that the information uploaded in the website would be updated each year, by adding the details of newly admitted students.
"The details of blood donors in the exclusive website can be accessed by anyone," he said, adding that the site has already started informal functioning.
'It was a Herculean task to gather information from all the colleges, and the complete support of teachers and students helped us to make the dream a reality within a short period of five months," he said.
The Pareeksha Bhavan of the University is carrying out the process of uploading the information regarding the students.
The process will be quickened once the hectic examination schedule of the University is over.
