Nation pays tributes to Rajiv Gandhi on 68th birth anniversary
The nation on Monday pays tributes to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 68th birth anniversary.
President Pranab Mukherjee, Vice-President Mohammad Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and several other dignitaries visited the Vir Bhumi here and paid floral tributes at the samadhi of Rajiv Gandhi.
Several functions are being held across the country today to remember the former Prime Minister.
Rajiv Gandhi was the sixth Prime Minister of India (1984-1989). He became the youngest Prime Minister of India when he took office at the age of 40 after his mother Indira Gandhi's assassination on October 31, 1984.
