Navy war-room case: CBI team may visit UK
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) may send a team of its officials to London in the month of October to provide assistance to the Crown Prosecutor Services (CPS), which is the prosecuting agency in the naval war-room leak case in a British Court.
A London court is likely to hear India’s plea seeking extradition of Ravi Shankaran, prime suspect in the Naval war room leak case, in the month of October. According to sources decision to send a team of CBI officials is expected to be taken by the end of this month, sources added.
“Mr Shankaran’s lawyer recently raised the issue of poor prison conditions in Indian jail in the London’s Westminster Magistrates’ Court. Indian authorities are preparing to counter this plea of plea of Shankaran’s lawyer in the next hearing through the CPS,” sources said, adding “Mr Shankaran’s lawyer raised the issue of alleged poor prison conditions in India in the court in the last hearing.”
Earlier, main accused in the Purulia Arms drops case, Kim Davy, had also used same plea in a Danish court to escape extradition. Davy’s plea was strongly countered by the officials of the CBI who were present there during the hearing”. A key accused in the Naval war-room case, Shankaran, was arrested by the Metropolitan Police in London on April 21, 2010, following which the CBI, which is the Interpol in India and the agency investigating the case, was informed.
