Naxal hand suspected in twin murder

In yet another gruesome Naxal attack, a woman working for a village revenue department, and a 50-year-old man were murdered on Saturday evening. The police said that the Naxals suspected that the two were police informers.
According to the police, a group of Naxals killed Mayabai Sukhdeo Duga, (40), by slitting her throat in the Talaitola area in Gadchiroli’s Dhanora taluka on Saturday night. Later, the attackers went to the Mendherola village in Dhanora, where they murdered Murlidhar Mahadore early on Sunday, the police said.
“The motive behind the committing the murders on October 2 was to spread violence on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the preacher of non-violence,” said inspector P. Navnath from Gadchiroli.
According to Mr Navnath, the police has now intensified its search operations in the nearby jungles. “We have made separate teams, and have deployed them in the jungles to look out for the assailants,” he said. The murders have occurred a day after the police arrested four Naxals on Friday, acting on a tip off.
“Off late, the Naxals have been targeting their former comrades who have surrendered to the government, in order to discourage others from doing the same. But in this case they had suspected the victims to be police informers,” he said. Former Naxalite Karuna alias Bakka Durgam, (22), was murdered in Gadchiroli last week.
