‘Naxal military unit executed carnage’
The military company of outlawed CPI(Maoist) was suspected to be involved in the Monday’s carnage at Amamora in Chhattisgarh’s Raipur district, in which nine policemen, including additional-superintendent of police (ASP) Rajesh Pawar, were killed, police sources said here on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the missing policeman, who was part of the 10-member search party that came under attack, still remained untraced.
The police is still clueless about whereabouts of the missing cop.
“He could have escaped, or taken hostage, or maybe he had left the group earlier,” director-general of police (DGP) Vishwa Ranjan said.
Police sources said the missing policeman had last contacted his family members at around 3 pm on Monday before the search party was ambushed by Naxals on their way back to Gariabandh from Dantunama, a village in Orissa’s Nuapada district, which borders Chhattisgarh.
The team had gone to Dantunama to verify information that two Maoist deserters were staying in the village and to “cultivate” them, police sources said.
“The police team may have walked into a trap laid by the Naxals, because the ambush was set up barely a few kms from the village,” a senior police officer said.
