Naxals issue ‘quit notice’ to cops
“Quit or face the bullet,” the CPI(Maoist) have issued a warning to policemen in Chhattisgarh threatening that the ‘’entire village will be targeted if the police personnel or their relatives continued to reside there.’’ The threat comes days after the controversial killing of 19 people in an encounter with security forces in the Naxal-infested state. Documenting for the first time that villages in Chattisgarh are directly under threat of the CPI(Maoist), an Intelligence Bureau report submitted to the Prime Ministers Office and the Union home ministry on Monday says that families of policemen have been forced to desert their homes and flee to district headquarters, as they are being targeted by the Maoists. The report has also been marked to National Security Adviser Shivshanker Menon, PMO, Cabinet secretariat and the MHA.
The report raises alarm over the continued visits of armed CPI (Maoist) extremists to villages in Naxal theatres spread across Chattisgarh with ‘’field inputs indicating unfettered movement of multiple armed Maoists contingents.’’
The outfit had also organised a large arms training camp this month near Semar village near Amabeda police station in Kanker district, says the IB report accessed by this newspaper.
