Naxals kill 2 villagers, shoot at CPI leader
Insurgent violence showed no sign of letting up in Chhattisgarh with the Maoists killing two villagers, attacking a search party, injuring two CRPF jawans, shooting at a local CPI leader and looting houses in several villages in the Bastar region on Wednesday.
Police sources said the rebels shot dead two tribals at Maded and Dampaya in Bijapur district early on Wednesday morning, accusing them of being police informers. Armed Naxals raided the two villages and dragged the victims from their houses and gunned them down in front of their respective family members.
“Naxals shot dead two tribals, suspecting them to be police spies. The deceased had no link whatsoever with the police,” Bijapur district superintendent of police R.N. Das told this newspaper.
In another incident, two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawans were critically wounded in a Naxal landmine blast in Dantewada on Wednesday afternoon.
The police said the rebels detonated landmine targeting a search party of CRPF jawans near Korriras in the district. Two jawans — Anil Verma and Vikram Singh — were injured in the incident.
They were flown to Raipur for treatment.
