NC urges PM for greater autonomy
The National Conference, the senior partner in the Jammu and Kashmir ruling combine, on Tuesday sought early consideration of the Autonomy Resolution passed by the state legislature with a two-thirds majority more than a decade ago and urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to announce measures in this regard.
An NC delegation led by MP Dr Mehboob Baig met the Prime Minister here and submitted a memorandum to him which describes granting of greater autonomy to the state as the bedrock of the party and emphasises its resolution as “guaranteed”. The memorandum included, inter alia, implementation of the PM-appointed working groups and interlocutors, India-Pakistan talks, dialogue with all shades of opinion in the state, trade and movement across the LoC, opening of more routes, revision of a special package for Kashmiri migrants and a special package for PoK refugees of 1947, 1965 and 1971. It also pleaded for a special package for earthquake affected areas, rehabilitation and return of misguided Kashmir youth from across the LoC, a special recruitment package for the youth in defence, paramilitary forces, Central departments, banks and other Central government undertakings.
