‘NCP, Cong competing in corruption in Maha’
Terming the political development in Congress-NCP-ruled Maharashtra as “natak (drama)”, the main Opposition BJP on Wednesday said the present crisis in the state has not come as a surprise as the allies were “into corruption with a competitive spirit”.
The party claimed early election in the state is the only solution to the crisis.
“The drama in Maharashtra is not new. This had to happen. Both the Congress and the NCP are thoroughly looting the state... They are into corruption with a competitive spirit and are vying with each other. Jointly they are looting the state,” BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said.
The BJP leader claimed that the events in Maharashtra are “a trailer of things to come in Indian politics” as every ally will now put pressure on the government.
Mr Javadekar said in Maharashtra, the issue between the Congress and the NCP is “who got more and who got less”, even as the “dynamics of uncle and cousin” is also in play there.
“There is dynamics of stopping the investigation or protecting the corrupt... It’s a demand of cover-up. And that is why the Maharashtra situation was expected to blow up like this. It has blown up,” Mr Javadekar said.
Earlier, replying to a question on the Maharashtra crisis, BJP chief spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad termed the UPA government as a sinking ship led by the Congress and said most of the allies are seeking avenues to leave the government and “therefore we see the repeated spell of uncertainty”.
Mr Javadekar, however, said the NCP legislators are now asking Mr Ajit Pawar to take back his resignation.
“Once you have resigned, don’t take the resignation back,” he said.
