NDA names Jaswant Singh for the vice-presidential poll
At a high-level meeting here, the National Democrative Alliance led by BJP has decided to field its senior leader Jaswant Singh to take on Congress nominee and incumbent Hamid Ansari in the vice-presidential elections.
It may be noted that Congress has already decided to field Ansari for the second term to the post of vice-president. Coming out of the NDA meeting, senior BJP leader L.K. Advani announced the NDA candidature of Jaswant Singh to media persons.
During the NDA meeting, BJP had wanted JD(U) chief Sharad Yadav to contest the vice-presidential poll, but he was not interested in the post, said Advani.
Accepting the nomination, Jaswant Singh said, 'it is a matter of great pride that NDA has chosen me as their unanimous candidate for vice presidential poll.'
