NDA says army colonel acted independently
The National Defence Academy, Pune, that had launched an independent inquiry over the allegations of one of the senior Army officers being involved in a job racket, on Monday declared that it was an independent act by the officer.
A statement released by the spokesperson of the NDA reads, “Preliminary internal inquiry carried out by the NDA authorities reveals that the alleged involvement of the officer as reported in the press is probably an act of omission or commission of his own. Prima facie, role of others in his action could not be established.”
On Saturday, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had arrested Colonel Kulbir Singh along with other five others — Balkishan Charan Lal Kanojia, Vishnu Prasad Sharma, Ramesh Dilip Gaikwad, Dattaraya Eknath Shitkal and Manoj Maruti Shitkal — on charges of taking bribes from candidates during recruitment to fill up Class 3 and 4 posts.
The NDA authorities have now asked the CBI for a formal report to assist them in their internal inquiry on Col. Singh, a staff officer to the NDA Commandant, Lt. Gen. Jatinder Singh.
According to the CBI, the candidates were asked to just sign the answersheets and not fill up the answer to the questions.
Later, these signed sheets used to allegedly be filled up with correct answers by the accused. On Sunday, the CBI’s counsel said that it had recovered `83 lakh from Col. Singh’s house.
