NDFB planning blasts in Assam
The outlawed National Democratic Front of Bodoland rebels are conspiring to trigger off bomb blasts targeting security forces in Guwahati, Tezpur and other important cities of Assam to make their presence felt in the north bank of the river Brahamaputra.
Disclosing that security forces have been alerted of definite plans of the outfit, the authoritative security sources said that new leadership of the outfit has already smuggled in the explosives and looking for a chance to strike.
Asserting that inputs are very realistic, security sources said that Assam police have been advised not to take any chance as Bodo rebels trained in Bangladesh are desperate to execute their plan.
Taking the advantage of the ground situation, security sources pointed out, NDFB rebels have succeeded in establishing a strong support base in the northern bank of Brahamputra starting from Dhubri in Western Assam to Sonitpur district, which is dominated by Bodos and other indigenous tribes.
In an obvious attempt to strengthen their support base, the outfit has also started consolidating its hold on other non-Bodo indigenous communities. The Bodo leadership, which advocates UN policy of indigenous people, does not consider even Ahoms, the traditional rulers of Assam, as indigenous residents of the state. In what has been described a planned strategy of the outfit, the security agencies have noticed the NDFB rebels consolidating their association with Rabhas, Karbis and non-Dimasa tribes of the state. Though, appeasement policy of the subsequent state governments to keep their vote bank intact has largely been responsible for it, security sources feared that fledgling outfits like Hills Tiger Force in North Cachar Hills are suspected to be the off-shoot of NDFB game plan. The Hills Tiger Forces, which is said to have been backed by NDFB rebels also, has already triggered off more than six bomb blasts in the district in past few weeks. Though, there has been no casualty, the bomb blasts were aimed to blow up new sign boards hanged after renaming of North Cachar Hills district as Dima Hasao. Referring that NDFB was trying to capitalise on anger of the people, security sources said that Karbi youth Sangjit Ingti was heading one of the four commands of the Bodo outfit.
