Never conspired against BSY govt: K'taka minister
Rebel-turned-loyalist Karnataka Excise minister M.P. Renukacharya on Thursday claimed that he never conspired against chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa-led government or the BJP.
"I never hatched a conspiracy against our government or party," Renukacharya told reporters here. He had led the 19 disgruntled legislators, including 14 from BJP to ignite a power-crisis for Yeddyurappa government, but later dissociated himself from the dissidents.
"It is a fact that I signed a letter resigning from the ministry, but the rebels used it for withdrawing support from the government," Renukacharya said. He himself on October 6 told the media in the company of the dissidents that they have withdrawn support to the government.
Meanwhile, the minister claimed that he had brought the rebellion, which began in September, to the notice of the chief minister. Renukacharya was persuaded to return from the fold of rebels as Mr Yeddyurappa refrained from sacking him from the ministry.
BJP sources attributed the somersault acts of Renukacharya to the threat of losing his ministerial berth in the next round of ministry expansion. Mr Yeddyurappa is planning to drop some ministers to accommodate those who helped his government to win the trust vote in the Assembly on October 14 and some new faces to gain control over the tottering government.
But the ministry expansion has been put on hold till the high court pronounces its verdict on a batch of petitions filed by 16 MLAs, challenging their disqualification from the Assembly membership by Speaker K.G. Bopaiah.
